Show Notes
"Tickets for this concert were extremely hard to get, I ended up buy them from a broke for $60 ($40 more than the orginal price!!!). The concert was at The Vic Theater, which was the smallest venue Green Day played in Chicago for years and probably years to come. I was extremely excited because I've been a HUGE Green Day fan for years and they would be preforming the upcoming album American Idiot that I hadn't heard for it had not been released yet. I was expecting so incredibly great. THe first song boomed American Idiot(I had allready heard it and knew all the words), the break down was very nice and they really got the audience into it. The next song blew me away, JESUS OF SUBURBIA 10 minutes of punk rock nirvana, by then I allready been ready to say it was the best concert I've ever seen. I had all ready seen them in 2002 and they were awsome, but this was spactacular. It was awsome. From then on no other song topped Jesus of Suburbia. Holiday was a wonderful anti-war balled. By the time St. Jimmy was being preformed Billie Joe had left his guitar behind and was only vocals, he really got in to it and got the audience into it by making obscene gestures. By the time Extrodanary Girl rolled around the burning smell of marijuana filled the air and the audience was going crazy, the trumpet player nailed the song making it very good live preformance of that song, all though the recored version is a little weak. I had no idea what would come soon after a song called Homecoming, it blew any other song and tied Jesus of Suburbia, in my opinion. Mike Dirnts vocals fit the song perfectly, it was preformed flawlessly. After the album was finished the screams and shout rocked the concert hall and Green Day gave a 7 song encore. Including one of the best covers I've seen done We Are The Champions was a crazy cover, and it made my day. BEST CONCERT EVER."
Ryan: "he Chicago show was at the vic theatre on sptember 18. it was amazing. The vic theatre is extremely small, about as big as 2 classrooms, i was lucky enough to be about 10 feet away from the guys. It was insane this was my first Green Day concert so i was blown away. They guys have not lost a thing. They were backed up with an extra guitarist ( who did some of the solos and played ryhtem when billie joe put down his guitar.) a pianist, for "wake me up when september ends" and an extra singer/ extra instruments. At the begining of the concert the blasted away the audience away with american idiot, in which with the opening riff the audience went crazy and sang along. I was lucky enough to be in the mosh pit so i could see everything including the stage perfectly. The next song they played was the nine minute epic "Jesus Of Suburbia" ranging from 60's pop-punk to the 70's 80's and 90's bratty punk, strangely over the coarse of the record almost everyone knew all of the words to all of the new songs. i bet the guys were surprised by that! my friend and I were lucky enough to not have heard only but 3 songs off the new record, so it was all brand new to us. After they played the American Idiot record, they tricked the audience by saying Good night chicago! but about 15 seconds later mike came on stage and began playing the infamous "Longview" bass riff. The crowd went crazier than ever!!when longview came to an end they began Armtage Shanks off the insomniac record after that song they started minority, in the middle of minority billie joe screams "IM RICK JAMES BIATCH!" and the audience starts laughing hysterically. then they finished the set. This was a terrific show you should have been there!!remember to buy American Idiot which hits stores on tuesday spet 21 it is amazing!!!!!!!!!"
