Show Notes
Unknown 1: "I left with my friends Nick, Al, and Al's girlfriend Jessica at about 4:00 yesterday afternoon to my absolute favorite band, Green Day, for the very first time in Pittsburgh, PA. Al, Nick and myself all were trying to guess what Green Day would open up with and weird enough we were all thinking of Nice Guys Finish Last. We arrived at the IC Light Amphitheatre at about 5:30 to see a huge line waiting to get in. We stood and line and it just got longer and longer. Pretty soon we got in and just happened to get near the front of the stage. Then the crowd started pouring in and the place started to get pretty packed. Soon enough, Green Day ran out onstage to a huge amount of screaming and pushing. What did they open up with? Ironically enough, they played Nice Guys Finish Last. It was great. Since this was the first time that Nick and I had ever saw them in concert we were ecstatic. The soon follwed with Castaway and Church On Sunday. Then the followed with Longview (I think) and the crowd just started going nuts. That's when the moshing started to get bad. I got hurt quite a few time, but loved every painful moment. After a bunch of more hits adn even a few non-hits (like The Ballad of Wilhelm Fink to my suprise) they acted like they were finsihed and then came back out and played like 10 more songs. They played a total of 23 songs. At point Billie asked, 'Who likes Black Flag?' Everyone screamed. And he said, 'OK, just taking a poll.' They did a ton of fan interaction. And put on the best show I will probably ever see. The played most of their hits, and suprisingly enough they played some old stuff like Going To Pasalacqua and Only Of You. When they played Brain Stew, I went nuts and started elbowing people in the back of the head. At one point, they played Knowledge and my friend, Nick, threw his hat onstage and Billie Joe put it on. That was basically the highlight of the show. So, since I knew how to play guitar and the song, I jumped on Al's shoulders and Billie Joe pointed at me. I thought I was going to play and then he picked someone else. Oh well. They dude got up there and acted like he didn't know how to play guitar. Then he broke out into all these solos and crap. So, Billie Joe slapped him. They did a ton of fan interaction, and put on the best show I will probably ever see. At the end of the show Mike Dirnt opened up some beer and sprayed it right in my face. Woohoo! And then Billie Joe announced, 'Tre can't set his drums on fire, because he accidently set his hand on fire yesterday.' 5 minutes later (after an extremely angry version of Platypus), he set the drums on fire. Tre soon brought out some new drums, and ended on Macy's Day Parade."
Unknown 2: "This was my 3rd show this year and it was one of the best! This time we got right up front on Billie Joe's side so I could take some awesome photos. We could see the band the whole time, it was great. At 7:30 the opening band hit the stage. The Living End was awesome! Since I just saw them 3 days ago I actually could sing along with some of their songs like "Roll On", "Pictures in The Mirror", "Prisoner of Society", and MANY more. Then after about 1/2 hour of them and a 1/2 hour set change, Green Day hit the stage for the last night of this leg of the tour. Billie said that they always make the last show the best, and they did! The started out again with "Nice Guys Finish Last", followed by "Castaway", and then "Church On Sunday". The crowd was going crazy. Billie was sure to mention the word "Pittsburgh" many times and that always gets the home crowd going. "Welcome To Paradise" was next. Then after that the set list gets a bit fuzzy. I know that he took some requests from the crowd, like "Only Of You" and "Why Do You Want Him?" (which he messed up and only played 1/2 of) and "Going to Pasalaqua". Billie also played "The Ballad of Wilhelm Fink" again. All of the major Green Day hits were played of course. During "Knowledge" Billie brought up a drummer, a bass player, and a guitar player to play the rest of the song. The guitar player was a show-off and Billie had to slap him to get him to stop playing (it was cool). Then the guitar guy insisted that Billie take a photo of him w/Billie w/his camera onstage, after saying "no" like a 100 times, Billie finally did and then he made the kid stage dive. After "Waiting" and "Minority" the boys finished up with a 5 song encore. During the encore, Billie said that Tre wouldn't be burning his drums because he burnt his hand the night before in Michigan…but of course Tre ended up burning his drums after "When I Come Around" and then he set up a little drum set up front and they finished out the set with an awesome performance of "Macy's Day Parade". Then, Billie and Mike threw out some guitar picks. It was over. A great night for everyone! When the show was over, me and my friends went to get something to drink and then Lyndsay and I went and sat by the building where the tour busses were. There were two tour busses. One was right on the side of the street and the other one was locked inside the fence. Obviously we thought that one was the Green Day bus, but they tricked us. About 1/2 hour later, Tre came out by the OTHER bus. So everyone went over there and Tre had a huge crowd around him. I didn't try to bother him, since so many other people were, so I just took a photo of him in the crowd. Then, Tre left and shortly after Mike came out "when everyone was shouting 'Billie Joe!' and 'Mike'" and me and Lynday got a photo of us with Mike. Actually, we got the last two photos with Mike. I asked him for one and then I said "thanks so much" and he said "you are very welcome" and then Lyndsay asked him for one but his security crew were pulling him away saying that they were on a tight schedule but Mike is so sweet that he ignored the security and pulled Lyndsay over to him so I could snap one last picture. Then Mike threw the shirt off his back and someone caught it. But the sad news is that Billie Joe never came out to sign stuff or take photos but now I know that it was because they had a tight schedule because they had a plane to catch to get back home to Oakland for the 4th of July, so we all totally understood."
