Show Notes
Setlist is incomplete/out of order
Peter: "Green Day came out and opened with Nice Guys Finish Last. Billie Joe took some shots at George W. Bush, since this was in DC. After Time of Your Life, BJ stopped suddenly and pointed to someone in the crowd and said, 'I bet you heard that one on Seinfeld.' I thought that was the funniest thing he said all night, but not everyone got the joke. Oh well. And during Platypus he mocked hanging himself by the mic cable. And the Green Day backdrop changed twice, and confetti fell after Warning. So many of those trendy Gap-wearing girls were there, you know the ones who get on their jock boyfriends' shoulders and flash the crowd. Green Day needs to do a club tour. Please. There were a lot of young kids there, and the setlist seemed to cater to them, with plenty of simple, silly Nimrod songs like King For A Day and Platypus. I was hoping for some more off of Insomniac, or something random like J.A.R. or 80, but I guess they werent in that mood that night. Overall, good solid show, but I have come to expect even more from Green Day. I hope they do a club tour soon. Maybe then there will be more people who get it. But either way, Green Day is always able to make it a great show for all types of fans."
Maureen: "It was me,my boyfriend Shawn, our friend Greg, and my dad all on our way to the big Green Day show. This was going to be the second time me and Shawn were gonna see Green Day,since they surprisingly showed up at the HFStival this year(great show green day put on then!) It was around 6:30 and we were wondering around DC(i had gotten directions from the internet on how to get to the stupid Bender arena, and they were wrong!never trust directions from the internet...) We asked a bunch of people until finally one person gave us the right directions.By the time we got there,it was 7,which was when the doors were opening. We had to wait in this huge ass line to get into the place. We could hear the Living End starting to play while we were outside, but that was okay, since none of us really liked them that much.We finally got in,and the Living End was still playing. We went on the floor, and my dad went to sit in the stands.(by the way,the Bender arena was really small! It was like a high school gym,but a bit bigger)We went into the crowd, and were almost in the middle of the whole thing. The Living End finally ended, and we awaited Green Day.We were waiting for awhile, and people were getting ansy. These 3 guys got right in front of where we were standing, all of which were as tall as me,and I couldn't see over!(lol,I felt sorry for Shawn, cause he's a bit shorter than me,and he realllly couldn't see...Greg is taller than both of us,so he was fine) So when I saw an opening closer up,I went for it.I kinda got separated from my friends, but they were basically right behind me.Finally, the lights went out,and those red siren things went off,and we saw Green Day!They opened up with the energetic "Nice Guys Finish Last".They played all their hits, some songs off the new album, some songs form the older albums(they played like 3 songs from Kerplunk!,like 2000 Light Years Away, and Christie Road). At one point, they started to play a bunch of songs that were in the same key, like "Sweet Home Alabama",and an Ozzy song(that was hilarious!Billie stared to sing,in a really low voice, but then he started cracking up laughing and said "im not gonna go there".) I think some of my favorite songs were "Hitchin' a Ride","Brain Stew/Jaded",and "2000 Light years Away".Well,I think it was all little after "Waiting" and into "Minority" when I started to feel not so good.I was really dizzy, and I couldn't even stand up right.I went back to where Shawn was,and I said "I don't feel so-" That's when I fainted.Well,I guess you figured I got heat exaustion, since it happens a lot at concerts, which I did. They quickly got me some water, and I felt a little better. The VERRY unfortunate part was that we thought the show was over, cause you know,Green Day was like "Thank you,and good night!By the way,Brenda, will you please come up to the call desk,I repeate,Brenda, you have a call at the main desk."(lol) So my dad was like "Common, lets go" but I really wanted to stay!So we left.I just found out today that Green Day were playing an encore set,and I was really mad! They played one of my fave songs,"Platypus(I hate You)"!All because I didn't get anything to drink.......oh well.Overall, the concert was a great time, and I recommend everyone to go see them once in your life :) But please rember, its verrrrrrrrrrry important to drink lots of fluids!!!!It may cause you to miss something good!"
Brad: "The time had finally come Two months earlier the second tickets went onsale I bought a full 5, planning to bring a full group to my favorite band playing Live. After many cancellations I finally got 4 of the tickets to be used, while the last one was sold to some kid in the line (the little dik ran away without paying too). Anyway, after following a giant, basically retarded line we got into the arena through the emergency exits, as was everyone. WIthin seconds half the group was lost, but it didnt matter, I would find them later. The Living End took the stage, which was time for me to get a drink and prepare for Green Day's appearance. With a couple of my friends, Paco and Ryan, we stood bored and watched the Living End play their set. The other two in our group were somewhere in the crowd, and we didnt feel like looking yet. As the lights turned back on, we went to the top of the arena, near the rails, to search the crowd for them. Maybe it was the heat, but I thought I saw someone turn into a beach ball drawn like the Nimrod logo. Soon, but suddenly, the lights went out and the red sirens began spinning, shooting red glare across the arena. Green Day charged out playing Nice Guys Finish Last, and, seeing as how Paco Ryan and I hadnt found our friends, we charged in. For about half the set Ryan and I slowly moved through the crowd. However, we soon got overheated and had to leave the stage while it took them a half hour to get a few volunteers to play. Apparently they were having fun teasing some 12 year old kid, and a drummer who couldnt quite get the tempo. Soon I went back in, and forced myself, with Ryan behind me, near the stage. I sang along with them and the crowd with just about every song. Macy's Day Parade and Waiting got the crowd into a nice, sentimental state, which was ripped to shreds by songs like Welcome to Paradise (it might have been another song, i cant quite remember). Soon Green Day began walking off, but the crowd yelled for an encore. I was suprised and overjoyed when they came back onstage for a small song before jumping into what is in my opinion their best concert song: "Platypus (I Hate You)". As the crowd charged into their respective moshpits, I ran into one to find my friends PJ and Jacob, who got lost before, along with Paco and Ryan. We moshed straight through the song about 6 feet from the stage while Green Day pounded out the music. Nothing can match the energy of screaming "It Gives Me Pleasure Just to Know You're Gonna Die!" As you ram into another mosher. Green Day finshed with a slow song, which I think was "Time Of Your Life", during which I found another friend that I hadnt seen since school ended. As Green Day departed, we talked for a few minutes and I brought her up to see the rest of my friends, who were back upstairs getting a drink. There I found dani (daniella), who I was hoping to meet there earlier but hadnt found. She was extremely happy from the concert, and was sad to leave the arena. Soon after Ryan, Paco, jacob, PJ and I left the arena, being ushered away from some guy fighting with a security guard, and found my dad's car, finishing one of the greatest concerts I've ever been to with a very funny episode of LoveLine on HFS."
