Show Notes
Cara: "Hara Arena was the perfect place to see a Green Day show. It was my first trip to the venue, but I would gladly return there for another show in the future. It holds about 7,000 people, and it was almost filled to capacity. The crowd was not too rowdy (very unusual in my experiences!) and the band was very pumped up and played an amazing show. Billie Joe and the boys came out on stage about 9:20 and played an energetic 2 hour set. They opened with Nice Guys Finish Last and the ripped through 22 more songs afterwards. The setlist seemed to me more of a greatest hits set along with a few new songs and 2 covers. They sounded tighter than they ever have, and even pulled out a few new surprises. -- During 2000 Light Years Away, a saxophone player came out and jammed alongside Mike and Tre while Billie Joe squirted the crowd with a Supersoaker water gun. -- For King For a Day, Jason White came out to play guitar (while totally dressed in drag) while Billie Joe came out donning a cheesy velvet crown, stood on the speakers and sang to the audience. -- And then there was Knowledge... 3 lucky fans got to come up and form a band onstage, which Billie Joe lovingly named "The Dayton Satans". After a great performance, he grabbed the guitarist and gave him a huge smooch on the lips! Before playing Blood, Sex & Booze, Billie Joe told the mostly teenage crowd, "This is where you learn how to fuck." They decided to take a few requests during the show, and played Disappearing Boy (to which Billie Joe asked, "You like that old shit?"). Someone requested Why Do You Want Him?, but they didn't get around to playing it, unfortunately. Someone threw a joint up on stage during the middle of the show, and Billie Joe picked it up, looked at it, then walked back to Tre, put it in his mouth and lit it, while the crowd went nuts. Tre looked very happy! They closed their first set with Minority, then came out for the encore, which included Good Riddance, Platypus, Warning, Waiting, When I Come Around, and finally closing with Macy's Day Parade. Tre then proceeded with his ritual, to destroy his kit. Billie Joe just had the crowd in the palm of his hand. He lead many chants of "Hey! Hey! Hey!" and "Hey Oooh!" and got the crowd in the seats to do the wave around the arena. He shined a light on the fans all the way in the back who were sitting down, and said to them "Get your fucking asses out of those seats!" He could do so little as stand there and raise his hands in the air and get a roar out of the audience. And he was loving every minute of it! It seems as much as the band has evolved over the past few years, the crowd favorites still are the Dookie hits: Longview, Basket Case and When I Come Around. Their new songs sound fabulous live, especially Blood, Sex & Booze. Castaway and Minority. The band just keeps getting better with age it seems. They are much more mature musically, but thank goodness they haven't matured that much in their onstage antics!

The band played a 2 and a half hour set
They asked for requests from the crowd and played Disappearing Boy
And at one part Billie Joe appeared with a joint and took it around to Tre while he was still playing the drums and lit it for him and got stoned on stage. The got three kids from the crowd to play the instruments and B.J. kissed one of them on the lips. The song they played was a Ramones cover. Afterwards the kids stage-dived back into the crowd. When they played King For A Day, B.J. was wearing a crown and had the crowd chant the chorus with him. "KING-FOR-A-DAY" Really cool. During Platypus, right before the bridge, they stoped playing and B.J. talked to the crowd, then without any warning they exploded into the bridge. Where I was on the floor, there was a really big pit right in front of me. I just dived in and had some fun. The last song they played was Macy's Day Parade. B.J. leaned over to the mic with an acoustic guitar and played while the whole crowd sang with him. Very calm and cool atmosphere. (along with all the pot in the air) I rate it a 10. The band seemed like they were having a good night."
Editor's Note: Since there is variation between the setlists from the two reviews, we've decided to go with the first one because it is more detailed, realistic and credible.
