Show Notes
HeauBeau: "I think it was 1998 when I saw them at a festival in Washington called Endfest. The End is a radio station in Seattle and every year they do a big festival called Endfest. Although the station was in Seattle, back in these days the show took place in Bremerton, which is close to Seattle geographically, but any method of travel is time consuming. On the year in question, Green Day and The Crystal Method were headlining, and Green Day were LATE. I was standing off to the side of the stage and could see behind it. Eventually, a taxi pulls up and Billie Joe gets out. Apparently, Billie Joe was in a bar in Seattle, thinking the show would be somewhere near. At some point, he figured that he either be getting to the show, or that the show was far away, and he hopped in a taxi, which took him the 60 miles to the Bremerton fairgrounds. He did, I believe, give his guitar away. And they lit the drums ablaze."

"I saw Greenday at the EndFest Concert in Bremerton Washington on Aug. 1st 1998, and it was great! The concert was outside in the kitsap county fairgrounds, with thousands and thousands of people in attendance. My friends and I got real close to the stage, maybe 15-20 feet away. I didn't think we would be in the mosh area. Unfourtunately, I was wrong. At around 6:45 the crowd started going nuts, plastic water bottles were being thrown all over the place, and people were chanting "greenday! greenday!". Then Mike and Tre rushed out on stage and the place just went crazy. Billy Joe appeared wearing a black suit and hair coloured blond, he then proceeded to prance around waiving his arms. Then they started playing. Suddenly I was pushed forward and I was in this giant mosh pit. I don't care what you say, moshing is for idiots! I got out as fast as I could. I wanted to enjoy the music, not get trampled on by hundreds of people. Anyway, I got out and watched the great set (in some sort of order): Nice Guys Finish Last, Hitchin' a Ride, Longview, King for a Day, Brainstew/Jaded, Geekstink Breath, Welcome to Paradise, Basketcase, Time of Your Life. Billy was swearing like crazy because he knew he was being broadcast live on 107.7 the end. He was saying "F-" alternative music, "F" metal
music (they did impressions of metallica & slayer). Then he got the crowd to say stuff like "you suck" and "kiss my f- ass". BJ also put on a red devil mask and started singing "beautiful people". At the begginning of King 4 a Day, he ripped his pants off and showed everyone his black leather thong. After a bit of ass wiggling, he brought this kid up from Port Townsend to play guitar. I wanted to play so bad (because I play guitar), but he picked the kid close to the stage. BJ kissed him on the lips and then showed him the chords. Then at the end of the 3 chord song he made the kid dive off the stage. They finished off by braking all their stuff and starting it on fire. Then billy came out and sang time of your life. It was like a freakshow, it was probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I got like 10 feet away. GREENDAY rules, they aren't sell outs -- they just have talent and anyone who thinks otherwise can lick my sweaty left nut."
